Google Explains Real-Time Search

Google explains Twitter integration into Google Search Appliance.

Yahoo has already released a real-time search integration into its search engine but Google is quick to follow with the recent announcement.

Search Appliance gets real-time: Twitter feeds now available on the GSA

Real-time information is becoming an increasingly important part of searching online – both for business and consumer search users. Yesterday we announced the launch of real-time results on Google.com, and today we’re announcing that the Google Search Appliance (GSA) can show users tweets from Twitter next to their internal Search Appliance results.

Social information is important for businesses: employees searching for information needed to do their jobs benefit from real-time news too. They might be developing a new breakfast cereal, or designing a marketing plan for a clothing line, or writing strategy report for a political campaign. In all of these cases, understanding what is being said just as Twitter users are saying it can be invaluable.

Google’s focus is to provide the most relevant search results to users. In the case of the GSA, this means accessing information from multiple sources, aka universal search. To this end, we already offer a feature called Related Web Results, which allows employees to view results from Google.com alongside corporate search results.

Customers have told us that placing web results next to intranet ones often allows employees to think differently about a particular topic and approach it in new ways. By integrating enterprise search with more of the information that exists in the cloud, like tweets, employees can more easily leverage the wisdom of the crowd.

To turn the Twitter box on in GSA results, follow the instructions provided here. It should take no more than 15 minutes to get up and running. It can be enabled for only some users, all users, or set up so users can choose themselves whether they want to see the Twitter results by using a keyword trigger (like ‘twitter’). Integration info and how-tos for this feature can be found here, and happy realtime reading.

Matt Cutts as most of you know is one of the original members of Google and helped create a lot of the original architecture that the Google Search Engine survives on. He has become one of the main voices of Google. Matt Cutts explains the value of Link Building but he also for the first time explains that Link Building depends on the reputation of the site that is linking to your website or webpage. More specifically Twitter Links do carry some value when linking to your website but they do not carry any link popularity with it since the outgoing links on Twitter are no-follow. On Facebook however the links do carry value but only if the profile or fan page on Facebook is set to Public view (not Private). And then the normal link flow is in effect. If the Facebook page that is giving a link to the website you are promoting has link value or is considered popular to the search engines then you will gain from the links… I know it sounds confusing, Maybe the explanation from Matt Cutts is easier to understand… Enjoy the video :-)

Link building to build your email list

How is it possible to use link building to grow your email list? This is one of the best secrets that Internet Marketeers have kept quiet. The tactic is so easy its either going to make me look like a genius or like a complete idiot… you decide, lol.

Most people have a small section on their website that allows users to subscribe to your newsletter, if you don’t have this get it IMMEDIATELY!!! this is very important. But that’s where most people stop. You should also create a page that is completely focused on this email list allowing visitors to sign up to your email list / newsletter. Make sure this page has a lot of great content on it for search engine value. The the goal is to make sure you are linking to that exact page, start by in-site linking (make sure you have links throughout your website that are linking to it). Then find other sites that will link to you (I have a list of 8 places to find links below), and market this page specifically to people who are looking to be added to your newsletter, or a newsletter with your topic.

The 5 Steps to building your email list through link building:

  1. Allow users to sign up for a newsletter or to join your email list (this should be on every page)
  2. Create an email subscription page
  3. Make sure you are linking to your email subscription page from every page on your site (try putting it in the header, side navigation, or footer)
  4. Add several paragraphs of GREAT content on this email subscription page.
  5. Start link building: Link to this page from other websites.. some of the easiest ways to do this are listed below…

8 easy ways to build links to you email subscription page:

  1. Add you website URL to your email signature
  2. Post comments on blogs (not SPAM – make sure it is a quality blog comment)
  3. Post to relevant and high traffic forums (make sure its quality not SPAM)
  4. Compliment other websites, and send an email to the webmaster of the site you are complimenting, and ask for a link back to that page
  5. Give testimonials, give your testimonial to websites with the condition that they post your link (remember this is an endorsement, so don’t endorse a product, service, company, or website that you do not believe in)
  6. Link Exchanges are a great way to get quick momentum with the search engines
  7. Submit an original article to the main article directories
  8. Submit your website to the leading Website Directories

Link building to increase Targeted Website Traffic

Link Building to increase your Targeted Website Traffic in 7 simple steps

Search engines are the main reason that most people build links, but its not the only reason why you should do it. Knowing all the benefits to link building can help you grow your site even faster.

Most webmasters and Search Engine Optimization Specialist will use  Link Building to leverage search engines and increase rankings on a website. This is the main reason for sure but it is only the tip of the iceberg. The benefits that you can gain from link building can be astronomical and can change the entire way your online company is structured. Basically it all comes down to traffic + content.

You need Targeted Website Traffic in order to grow your website and get your content out to the masses, and this is where most people start off with link building so they can get traffic from the search engines. This strategy is a good one, but it misses the best part. The internet is bases on one concept; Networking – so you need to network with others, you need to share your info with others, and you need to collaborate with others in your industry. Lets face it, you will never know all the answers & when you think you have seen it all life is sure to surprise you.

I’m sure your asking how all this comes together to make your site popular and gain Targeted Website Traffic… so allow me to connect the dots.

Other websites in your targeted niche have already done the hard work and become popular and are getting tons of traffic to their website, so you should network with these people and befriend them. You will be surprised at the knowledge you will gain by doing so, and in return you can share your knowledge with them. These partnerships make your company thrive and allows you to toss work back and forth amongst yourselves. It also means that you can ask them to link to your site whenever they have a posting that talks about your specific specialty.

Another way to get links that produce traffic is through controversy. If you bad-mouth a company, person, tv show, or topic you may find yourself at the front of a traffic frenzy that will get people talking about you and linking to your website where you started the controversy from.

How do I find these popular sites?
To find sites that are getting a lot of traffic you should first do a search for common industry standard words that best describe your industry and find the websites that seem to always be at the top for a majority of your searches. Then take their URL and enter it into www.Alexa.com or  www.Quantcast.com (I recommend Quantcast) to find out how much traffic they are really getting each month.

The best way to start out by getting links is to:

  1. Add you website URL to your email signature
  2. Write an unsolicited blog posting about the person or website that your hoping to connect with (not SPAM – make sure it is a quality blog posting with a great review)
  3. Email the webmaster of the company you want to target and start up a conversation with them with the ultimate goal of networking and building a relationship with them.
  4. Compliment other websites, and send an email to the webmaster of the site you are complimenting, and ask for a link back to that page
  5. Give testimonials, give your testimonial to websites with the condition that they post your link (remember this is an endorsement, so don’t endorse a product, service, company, or website that you do not believe in)
  6. Talk bad about a company to stir up controversy
  7. Post a question on the target websites forum or blog that will intrigue them enough to want to talk to you.

These are the best and quickest ways to build links to your website that are bound to get you targeted traffic with a limited budget or no budget at all.

There are several methods that can be used to find .edu sites that will link to you. Recently a specific method was shared with me that I liked so now I am going to spread the love and share it with you.

To find .edu sites in Google that will link to you do the following search query in Google
site:edu +”Powered by WordPress” “keyword phrase”

To find .gov sites in Google that will link to you do the following search query in Google
site:gov+”Powered by WordPress” “keyword phrase”

To find .mil sites in Google that will link to you do the following search query in Google
site:mil+”Powered by WordPress” “keyword phrase”

To find .com sites in Google that will link to you do the following search query in Google
site:com+”Powered by WordPress” “keyword phrase”

Ok, so now that you know the search queries to use to find these sites allow me explain what this method is and why it works.

This method is based on the idea of finding blogs that you can comment on and add you link into the comment therefore gaining a link back to your site if the comment gets approved. Since you are using the phrase “Powered by WordPress” in your search query you are narrowing your search down to only WordPress websites. As you probably know WordPress is a Blog / Content Management System (CMS), this means that most of the sites found will allow commenting on posts.

Of course you do not want to find just any site, you want to only have relevant sites linking to you and this is why you use the “keyword phrase” in the Google search query. And since your using the .edu, .mil, .gov sites it ensures that the sites are quality websites.

The + forces your search to have the following word in it and since the following after the + is an exact phrase (it is within quotes) it will only show results that include that entire phrase.

The last part of this search query to break down is the first part of it site:mil this tells Google to only show results from sites with the .mil extension (TLD).
